Boston's Freedom Trail is an approximately 3-mile walking tour through downtown Boston, the North End, and Charlestown that tells the story of America's beginnings. More so than anywhere else in the nation, Boston contains sites which played critical roles in the birth of our nation, for it was in Boston that patriotism first developed.
With 16 sites, all of which played their own vital role in the early years of America, this self-guided walking tour tells the history of the patriotic men and women who were dedicated in ending the injustices imposed upon them by the tyrannical British Crown. They fought back, both figuratively and literally, against one of the most powerful empires in the world, and by doing so they gained their independence. This trail traces that very story, from the early beginnings as a colonial settlement to the collective action and revolts during the pre-Revolutionary years to the first battles of the Revolution to the eventual independence.
So join me in this step-by-step journey through one of the most turbulent, interesting, and important periods in American history. Learn about the earliest Americans in their fight for freedom, their revolt against a tyrannical empire, and their battle for independence. Discover how our nation was developed on the principles of democracy, right here in Boston.
